THE PARKHURST BOYS.
They arrived in
Auckland, New Zealand on the St George 1842
and the Mandarin in 1843. Quakers in England had arranged
for the segregation of young Offenders, who were sent to Prison on the
Island of Wight, to be taught useful Trades. It was decided to give some
of the boys a break! They would be pardoned if they agreed to go to
New Zealand, to live and work as directed on arrival. Here is
